The artists will take up residency two weeks prior to the opening night. The time will be used to develop work in response to the blank walls of the gallery, to each other and to the preconceptions each individual artist has to their own practise. Ralph Dorey, Robert Dowling, Bruce Ingram, Ocean Mims, Michael Pybus and Jack Vickridge all share a pleasure in Making. Skill and labour are combined with a hand made sensibility enriched through a multi-disciplinary approach to art production.

A GLASS OF BROCCOLI

7–22 July 2007

Greg Cox
John Lockhart
Dan Mort

Three sculptors share an object-based practice while uniting disparate methods of working. Each artist makes use of mundane objects while the work is steeped in British sculptural tradition. It is formal, playful and witty. An oddly compelling composure exists with each piece, from the amalgamation and diverse selection of objects and materials, to the various and strategic ways of conjoining and altering the structure of things. A satisfying composition of forms always prevails.

These deceptively intricate and varied approaches give possibilities to an endless consignment of permutations and configurations of the mundane.

A Glass of Broccoli continues the line of enquiry of object-based sculpture, maintaining relevance within contemporary visual arts culture; one which is increasingly embracing modern technologies and media.

BRING THE NOISE

1–17 September 2006

Alex Hermon
Phil Wise

A headlong plunge into the everyday scrawls, stains and signs of urbanity provides a truly modern ecstasy, a transcendence born from intensity of sensation.

‘Noise then, occurs when language breaks
down. Noise is a wordless state in which the
very constitution of our selves is in jeopardy.
The pleasure of noise lies in the fact that
the obliteration of meaning and identity is
ecstasy (literally, being out-of-oneself)’
